On December 4, 2007 actor, Dennis Quaid and his wife, Kimberly, filed a lawsuit against Baxter Healthcare Corporation.  The drug company is being sued for labeling on their blood thinner which was given to the actor’s twins last month. The twins were to be given 10-unit-per-milliliter of Hep-Lock but instead was given 10,000-units-per-milliliter of Heparin.  Both vials of medication have blue labels.  One has a light blue label and the other has a dark blue label.

Last year 3 children in Indiana passed away from the same kind of mix-up.The medication was given to the twins after they were born and when the mistake was discovered they were given a medication to reverse the Heparin.  Both twins are in good condition now.Baxter has started to package Heparin with bright red warning labels but have not recalled any of the old Heparin with the blue labels.  Baxter is being sued for negligence in leaving the old vials in circulation. The Quaid’s filed the lawsuit to make people aware of what is going on so this does not happen to anyone else.
